Rerouting a dryer vent in Citrus Springs

Much of Citrus Springs is block construction on slab, with the laundry either in a garage corner or an interior hallway closet. The garage setups get a short side discharge through the block, six to ten feet, easy to service. The hallway closets are the problem. Those go up through the ceiling plate, across the attic, and out a roof jack, with two to four elbows along the way. That is the run people ask us to reroute.

Rerouting means picking a shorter path, not just replacing duct on the old one. Every elbow costs the equivalent of several feet of straight pipe. Sometimes a gable or sidewall termination is reachable and cuts the run in half. Sometimes framing, trusses or an HVAC plenum sit in the way and the attic route stays.

New runs get rigid metal, joints pointed downstream, sealed with foil tape. No screws into the duct interior. Screws catch lint and rebuild the clog. The abandoned roof jack gets removed and the deck patched by a roofer, not stuffed with foam.

Manufactured and modular homes here vent down through the floor and out under the skirting. Rodents and nesting are the usual find. Often repair and a new termination beat a full reroute.
